{This post is long over-due} Last month I had the chance to attend the 2nd Orlando Food Truck Bazaar. I found out about the Orlando Food Truck Bazaar the night before from Julius. I felt a little unprepared, but I was so excited that my husband agreed for us to go! Julius, gave us a little prep talk the night before on what to expect. We brought a cooler with a few drinks in it and 2 folding chairs. Upon arriving to the Food Truck Bazaar we were handed a sheet of paper that had "hard facts" on it explaining about food trucks, etiquette, and everything in between.
Know Before You Go (compliments of The Daily City)
This event can be tons of fun if you know what to expect before you arrive, so make sure you're prepped by reading this brief list of "hard facts."
1. Expect to wait in long lines. While the food is delicious, it does not come fast. Why? Its not fast food. These are restaurants on wheels. Plan to wait.
2. We (The Daily City) have no control over the speed at which the lines move. The food trucks themselves control that.
3. Some trucks will run out of food. This can happen while you're waiting in line.
4. Expect to experience 1 - 2 trucks. If you get to experience more, yay!
5. Think tailgating: if you want to sit down while in line or while eating, bring a chair. Some folks also bring tables or eat in their car/truck.
6. Some trucks do take credit, but many do not, so bring cash. Ones and fives (not tens and twenties) are VERY welcome by the vendors.
Here were some of the trucks that were in attendance that evening:

My husband and I walked around for a little bit checking out each and every food truck, and then we devised a plan. I went to the Gourmet Island BBQ truck while my husband went to Korean BBQ Taco Box.
I have seen the CJ Jerk Shack Gourmet Island BBQ truck at art shows before, but we've never stopped to try any of there food. It was beyond delicious and best of all I only had a 40 minute wait!
I had the jerk chicken, coconut rice and beans with callaloo greens. After I photographed my first food truck meal I brought it over to my husband who was still waiting in line for his chicken taco from Korean BBQ Taco Box. This meal was almost like an appetizer since it wasn't until another hour that we had another meal!
My husband was determined to try the Korean BBQ Taco Box... 2 hour wait (little did he realize)!
After waiting close to 2 hours my husband finally got to try the famous Chicken Taco Box from Korean BBQ Taco Box. We like the fact that you aren't just getting a taco. You get a large taco, ginger salad, and a 2 chicken wings along with some tempura vegetables!
Teriyaki Chicken box from Korean BBQ Taco Box
Our friend's Thomas and Jenny waited two hours, yes, I wrote that correctly. Two hours to try Melissa's Chicken and Waffles. It was also the debut of her food truck. Not sure if she was ready for a few hundred hungry foodies!
The famous chicken and waffles!
(Half eaten) Belgium waffles with fresh berries and whipped cream!
A friend of ours told us to check out this truck, and after waiting 45 minutes I was so happy I did! Not only was it inexpensive it was rather tasty!
Here I am, waiting in the 45 minute line to try pupusas (carrying my chair)!
Here is my traditional pupusas; pork, beans and cheese with a coleslaw and dipping sauce.
After we finished our Pupusas, Korean BBQ Taco Box, and Chicken & Waffles we made our way over to Red Eye BBQ truck where we finished our night at. It was 10:00 and some of the lines had died down. Luckily we only had to wait 5 or 10 minutes at Red Eye (which felt like nothing compared to the other waits that evening.
My brother in-law had the urge (after eating a Philly cheese steak and a the teriyaki chicken box) to try the smothered fries which consisted of crinkle cut french fries, pulled bbq pork, and cheese sauce. It was rich and delicious, and although I would never think to pair bbq pulled pork with cheese sauce it was delightfully good!
My sole reason for going to the Red Eye BBQ truck was to try the "Red Eye". A cornbread muffin stuffed with BBQ pulled pork, drizzled with barbecue sauce and honey. Once again a very rich side dish, but beyond amazing. I love my cornbread sweet and this definitely satisfied my taste buds!
I had hoped to bring a cupcake home from the Yum Yum Cupcake truck; however, by the time we got over to the truck they were sold out. They had sold out of over 1400 cupcakes in one evening! That's beyond amazing. Luckily, the amazing, Julius, (author of Droolius) split his chocolate peanut butter cupcake with us (not pictured). It was light and fluffy and reminded me a lot like my own!
I'm happy to announce that The Daily City will be hosting 3 food truck bazaar's a month in June, July, and August. If you live in the Central Florida region I highly recommend you come and enjoy some amazing food!
Have you been to a food truck or bazaar yet?
Was this the one at the Fashion Square Mall? We were there too! Our strategy was to wait in the shortest lines, so we had some fish tacos from the WP Fish Co., and a mango italian ice.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! KC should do this. It's actually a little known dream of mine to own/run a food truck someday. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I took a decent pic of you that night ;-) That was a fun night. Next time it will be even more divide and conquer - get there early!
ReplyDeleteSO jealous about all the food trucks! They don't have any up here in Jax.
ReplyDeleteLove this post, Katie. Thanks for the tips and primer. Can't wait to try Orlando food trucks out.
